
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 32
(By Senators Dawson, Mitchell, Redd, Dittmar, McKenzie, Ball,
Fanning, Hunter, Oliverio, Ross and Deem)
Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance conduct a
study of insurance fraud, protecting the public from
fraudulent insurance acts and the impact of insurance fraud on
the economic life of the people of West Virginia.

Whereas, Insurance fraud is purported to be a growing problem;
and

Whereas, The Legislature needs accurate information on
insurance fraud; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby
requested to study insurance fraud; the need for establishing an
insurance fraud unit within the division of insurance; how
insurance fraud may be prohibited, including prohibiting the
destruction of the assets or records of an insurer with the intent
to obstruct an investigation into insurance fraud; and the conduct
and practices and the impact of insurance fraud on the economic
life of the people of West Virginia;

Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2001, on
its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts
of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations;
and, be it

Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this
study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be
paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on
Government and Finance.
